The PRINCE2 Practitioner certification validity has to be renewed every three years. Failing to do this will make the certification expire, and you will have to sit for the exam again.
You can renew your PRINCE2 certification validity by two methods: the re-registration examination and the Axelos membership. Here is an overview of both these methods for your understanding.
To renew PRINCE2 practitioner validity and foundation validity, you can sit for the re-registration exam at the end of your third year of getting the certification. The re-registration exam is like the practitioner exam, with the only difference being shorter exam duration and fewer questions.
Exam Pattern | Object type |
Duration | 1 Hour |
Pass Marks | 55% |
Total Number | 30 |
Questions | 3, each having 10 question items |
Exam Type | Open book; You can use PRINCE2 manual only |
Keep in mind that the renewal examination is a bit stressful as you are appearing for it after three years. Remembering all the topics is not possible. Thus, before taking the exam for PRINCE2 practitioner certification validity renewal, it is helpful to attend a training course and revise the topics. However, you need to pay extra for the revised training besides the renewal costs.
If you are a student, you can appear for the PRINCE2 practitioner validity exam as you will get time to revise the topics. But if you are working in any company, this renewal exam is not your cup of tea. You will not get enough time to invest in the studies.

Getting Axelos membership is one of the most convenient and affordable ways to renew your PRINCE2 certification validity. You will have to take the membership right after passing the PRINCE2 examination. The membership is valid for three years.
In every year of your membership, 20 CPDs (Continuing Professional Development) have to be submitted. So, by the end of your three-year membership, you should have 60 CPDs. You can apply for PRINCE2 practitioner validity renewal after this.

If re-studying for the re-registration exam is not something you want to opt for, take the Axelos membership route to renew your certification. You will have to earn the CPDs continuously, but that will also increase your current and practical knowledge.
