Agile teams are moving towards estimation using Story points where the effort is weighed in Fibonacci series like 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 13 which can be done in planning poker sessions.
You will be taught that Ideal day estimates are effort estimates that represents amount of work that a developer can complete in eight hours without any interruptions of calls or meetings but this method is not recommended due to its various loopholes like comparison between two teams amongst others.
Requirements in agile refer to the features that the user needs. Requirements basically meet the need of the intended users. You will learn that these requirements can again be categorized into: Functional Requirements Non-functional requirements The categorization of these requirements depends upon the functionality and the behavior of the system in question.
In sprint, it is very important to provide a potentially shippable product increment but as we discussed in the previous segments that it is difficult to determine what exactly is a “potentially shippable product” and here arrives our hero of the story “definition of done”. Definition of done is the agreement of the work that is agreed upon by all team members and is the criteria for completing the creation of a shippable product which has to be followed mandatorily as it increases the confidence in quality of work.
In Scrum, you will be taught that all the decisions are made on the basis of past experiences, observation and experimentation. Detailed planning is less used in Scrum projects. It relies on three main principles:
- Transparency– This leads to transparent flow of information throughout the project and organization thereby creating a very open work culture.
- Inspection – Inspection of the scrum activities through the use of different techniques and feedback from client
- Adaptation- Adaptation involves making improvements in the process by learning through inspection.

- What did not go well?
- What did not go well? What needs improvement and what are the points to improve?

While practicing Scrum, even if scrum teaches to have less documentation, few artifacts are suggested that provides key information to Scrum team and stakeholders for better understanding of the product. These artifacts include the kind of activities that should be undertaken in a scrum cycle along with the plans for future scrum cycles. You will learn that artifact prescribed by Scrum includes:
Product Backlog – Product Backlog lists all the features that are needed to create the end products with all changes or updates. It is ever evolving as per the requirements. Product backlog is usually divided into User Stories to make it more manageable and is managed by Product Owner.
Sprint Backlog – Items from the product backlog are selected to be taken up for a particular Sprint and becomes part of Sprint Backlog. As and when team completes work on a sprint backlog item, remaining work is again updated. Sprint backlog gives a real time picture and is solely managed by the team and belongs to the team.
Increment – Increment is the sum of all product backlog items completed during a sprint plus all those items which are completed in the previous sprints. Increment is basically a working, useable product created as the end result. With each sprint, functioning of increment increases.
This session will give you a brief overview about product backlog. Product backlog refinement is also called backlog grooming and it is a meeting that is done to keep the backlog orderly and clean and also to ensure backlog is ready for next sprint. This meeting is done towards the end of current sprint for ready disposal of stories for next sprint
Scrum framework defines three main roles. You will learn the following:
Scrum Product owner – Scrum product owner is project’s key stakeholder who tells the scrum team about his vision for the product that is needed to be build.

We will further look into what the definition of done means in section ahead. Sprint execution includes planning, daily stand-ups and communication amongst the scrum team. You will be taught about:
Daily scrum or Daily stand-up meeting is held every day in the sprint where each team member answers 3 questions “What did I do yesterday”? “What will I do today”? And “If I am facing any impediments then what are they”?
Daily scrums should be strictly time-boxed to 15 minutes and is done at the same location and same time every day. Scrum master facilitates this meeting and it is attended by the entire scrum team. It helps the entire scrum team to operate properly and to solve obstacles if any.
Sprint Retrospective is a scrum ritual wherein all team members come together to introspect on the work that they completed along with any probable methods that can be used to improve the already existing process. This meeting happens at the end of each sprint with the same participants vis-a vis Scrum team, product owner, scrum master. Sprint retrospective again answers three questions:
What went well?
What could have been improved?
Actions that can be taken to improve
Acceptance Criteria is the predefined condition that should be met while creating the product and hence the product must satisfy the conditions/requirements set by customer.
